Presidential Pensions

One of the problems I have with government programs is that, once you start one, you never get rid of it. In 1953, President Harry S Truman was concerned about his economic status, and Congress voted to grant him and all future Presidents a pension. The only other living ex-President was Herbert Hoover, a very wealthy man. However, he decided to accept his pension so as not to embarrass his friend Truman. Look at the score: Truman lived another twenty years; Hoover lived another eleven. Eisenhower received his pension checks for eight years, LBJ for four. Nixon drew a pension for twenty years, Gerald Ford for twenty-six, Ronald Reagan for fourteen, Jimmy Carter for twenty-eight years and counting, Bush 41: sixteen years and Bosh 43: six months and counting. Of those ten men, Truman and Ike were the only two who were not millionaires many times over. If you want to eliminate welfare for the rich, eliminating Presidential pensions would make a good start.
